Hot Toys Redoes Chewbacca With a Broken Threepio

When Kenner originally made a C-3PO with removable limbs figure, packed with a backpack for Chewbacca to wear, it was the coolest action figure ever — a rare Star Wars figure with an actual action feature, and a useful, timely replacement given how many of the first Threepios suffered from loose limbs.

That one cost around two bucks back in the day. Hot Toysnew Chewbacca with the backpack and the disassembled Threepio costs considerably more, but he’s way fancier. For $430, this is one realistic mini-Wookiee.

Levelling up

Per the official description, the figure, “features a newly developed sculpt styled in wool hair with articulated jaw, multiple layers of fabric hair with various shades of brown throughout his whole body, a distressed brown bandolier, a blaster, a bowcaster, handcuffs and a display stand. In addition, this collectible figure includes a disassembled C-3PO with body parts finished in chrome application. A net is also included for fans to recreate where Chewbacca carries C-3PO on his back in the movie.” He also features the individual rolling eyeball feature common to most premium Hot Toys.

The Empire Strikes Back remains the most acclaimed of the Star Wars movies, with its dark turns and plot complications for the characters, as relationships change, deepen, and reveal themselves. While many of the heroes get put through the emotional wringer, Threepio gets physically put through one, and literally ripped apart. He remains able to lecture and tell people the odds, however. This figure captures that perfectly, along with Chewbacca’s helpful and mechanically skilled nature.
