McFarlane Toys’ Jonah Hex Is a Rare DC Figure With Guns

Toy collectors know the deal. Not too long after McFarlane Toys took over the DC Multiverse license, Warner Bros. handed down an edict that DC-based action figures could not come with guns. Even characters like Red Hood and Grifter, whose signature accessories are two pistols, would get packed with knives or axes instead. Even when McFarlane Toys suggested that Sgt. Rock might be an exception due to the military theme, the final figure ended up with no guns.

Hex ‘N’ Effect

So it came as a surprise to everyone that Jonah Hex and his horse, The General, will, in fact, come with two pistols and a rifle. Early photos showed his guns in holsters, and fans mostly suspected they’d be sculpted in with no way to remove them. But no — he can draw his guns, take them to town, and whatever else cowboys do. So what’s different about this figure, that he’s able to feature his lethal weapons?

Seemingly, two things. Firstly, he’s a McFarlane Toys website exclusive, with preorders going for $69.99. Secondly, all the ad copy notably states that it is “not a toy,” and the box labels it for ages 17+. Maybe WB, like everyone else, read all the recent articles about how more adults buy toys for themselves now than children.

In addition to the guns, Jonah Hex includes a removable cloth coat, a tomahawk, knife, military sword, and two interchangeable belts. The hat does not appear to be removable. Like every other DC figure, he also comes with a circular stand and a trading card.

A cowboy character without his guns would have been like, well, a military character without his guns. If Warner Bros. is paying attention, maybe cops and career criminals can have guns in the future too. They allow them in the comics and movies, after all.
