McFarlane Toys 7-Inch Marvel Comics Figures Revealed

We had an inkling what characters Todd McFarlane was going to make in his first wave of 1/10-scale Marvel figures. No prizes for guessing a McFarlane-style Spider-Man, something he’s been wanting to make ever since getting into toys in the first place. Today, however, we got the first official look at Spidey, plus Wolverine, Deadpool, and Iron Man, the lineup initially reported when the deal was first announced.

Like the current iteration of Movie Maniacs, these are pre-posed — Diamond Select isn’t likely to give up the 1/10-scale Marvel articulated action figure license any time soon, and since Diamond controls comic-book distribution, they have an edge in any renegotiation. They are the right size to display next to McFarlane’s DC figures, however, or Diamond’s Marvel figures. Unusually for McFarlane, they feature line-art shading and full color deco — the company usually does one or the other, but these are meant to mimic specific classic images.

Wolverine, in brown and yellow, is based on X-Men #1. Iron Man is from The Invincible Iron Man #126 cover. Deadpool is based on New Mutants #98, and standing in that classic Rob Liefeld chest-puffing pose. Spider-Man, of course, is a replica of McFarlane’s Spider-Man #6 cover.

Each figure comes with a sculpted stand, and a backdrop. Price point is unknown for now, but preorders begin July 18th, so that’ll be out there soon enough (best guess: $25-$30).

As much as it might be a challenge, it would be great to see Liefeld’s chesty Captain America in this style. As unusual as the anatomy on it is, it’s something that would likely sell purely as a conversation piece. But we’ll just have to wait and see if more get revealed at Comic-Con in a couple weeks.

What classic covers or artwork would be on your wishlist?
