DST Merry and Pippin Figures Complete the Fellowship of the Ring

When Diamond Select toys started doing The Lord of the Rings action figures, two at a time, collectors felt some trepidation. Would it be worth investing in this line if it only produced a handful of characters? Well, as of this announcement, one major milestone is achieved for Diamond: the complete Fellowship of the Ring in figure form.

We’ve got a feeling older figures might start going up in value, as late adopters decide they now want the entire gang. Merry and Pippin should hit retail outlets this fall, and technically comprise the seventh series of Diamond’s Lord of the Rings figures.

Ring Theory

The rest of the Fellowship — Aragorn, Frodo, Legolas, Gimli, Sam, Gandalf, and Boromir — can now play nicely on one shelf with the newest additions. Hobbits Meriadoc “Merry” Brandybuck and Peregrin “Pippin” Took probably regretted getting involved in Frodo’s business numerous times, but in the end, proved braver than men twice their size. For actors Billy Boyd and Dominic Monaghan, the roles proved to be career-launchers.

Here’s the official description: “Complete the Fellowship! The final two members of the Fellowship of the Ring, formed in the first part of the Lord of the Rings trilogy, are Meriadoc “Merry” Brandybuck and Peregrin “Pippin” Took, and now the two hobbits make up the 7th series of Lord of the Rings Deluxe action figures! Each approximately 4-inch figure features multiple points of articulation, and each comes with a variety of accessories in a full-color window box. Designed by Eamon O’Donoghue and sculpted by Gentle Giant Studios!”

It’s not yet clear what accessories they come with, as none are shown in the official product images. But you can check those out below, and perhaps imagine how they might be equipped come sales time. It definitely looks like there’s space for a cloak to go on their shoulders.
