Batman: The Animated Series Joins Mezco’s Five Points Line

By now, any hardcore fan of Batman: The Animated Series probably owns action figure for it in multiple scales. From the original Kenner/Hasbro five-inch figures to DC Direct 6-inch/McFarlane 7-inch, and Mondo’s foot-tall, cel shaded collector’s items, this incarnation of Batman gets toyed with plenty.

But for those who prefer the throwback 3-3/4 inch scale of classic Star Wars and G.I. Joe, Mezco‘s on the case. Batman: The Animated Series is coming to their 1:18 scale Five Points line, featuring all the quality of Mezco sculpting with just five points of articulation.

Bat-Mites

The main reason to make figures that small is so that they’ll fit in vehicles and playsets, and in this, case, it’s the show’s iconic Batmobile. Most previous toy versions have only seated one figure due to size, but in this scale, Batman and Robin can actually sit side-by-side. The Batmobile is sold separately for $45, but why would somebody buy it and not the figures to ride inside? Mezco’s probably done their research and found some people who would, but for most fans of the license, the $125 set with four figures and the car, making each figure $20 apiece albeit not available separately as such, seems like the way to go.

In addition to Batman and Robin, the set includes Catwoman and Joker — the lack of Harley Quinn comes as a surprise, but she and many others could potentially follow. Each figure includes an alternate head, extra set of arms, and accessories, packaged on Kenner-style cards. Apparently it’s less costly to make separate, switch-out arms bent at the elbow than to allow elbows to bend.

Expect item delivery sometime next fall, by which time we may well know if the line is to continue. An animated Batwing in this style certainly would not look amiss, and shelf space taken up would be minimal. In the meantime, the Batmobile includes wheel slashers, sliding cockpit cover, and a clip-on exhaust flame! Check out more images below.
