Transformers: Reactivate Premium Game-Based Figure Two-Packs

“The gravest threat to humanity has arrived. And it’s already won. Earth is no longer ours; it belongs to them. All we have left is our hope for the Autobots, as we salvage them from the rubble left behind.”

So goes the official teaser for Transformers: Reactivate, an upcoming 1-4 player online action game for consoles and PC, developed by Splash Damage. We don’t know a lot about the game officially, but as of this week, we know it’s getting toys, as if that weren’t a foregone conclusion. Hasbro‘s kicking it off with two packs of two figures apiece: Bumblebee with Starscream, and Optimus Prime with Soundwave.

More Than Meets the Game

Looking at the figures, it appears that the robots will look essentially like their Generation 1 selves, though Bumblebee’s more of a hybrid between G1 and movie, perhaps due to Volkswagen licensing issues. When it comes to transformations, things change, no pun intended: Soundwave and Bumblebee both become offroad vehicles, while Optimus and Starscream retain their classic jet and truck modes.

Each two-pack costs $62.99; you’re paying extra in part for “premium metallic battle damage deco.” Currently up for preorder on Hasbro Pulse, they should ship to consumers around Feb. 1. At approximately 6.5 inches, they scale with Deluxe Class, which usually goes individually for $24.99, making the premium deco worth about a $6 apiece upcharge.

There’s a very good chance of more to come. Obviously, the Decepticons are missing a leader. As for the Autobots, it remains to be seen whom the game digs up to reactivate into action. Though the number of toys that could come out of this whole deal probably depends greatly upon the pre-sales of these double-sets. You make the call, in other words.
