Mattel’s Hot Wheels Comic-Con Exclusives Go Marvel, DC and Star Wars

Hot Wheels isn’t necessarily a toy property we here at Superhero Hype stay on top of. There are just too many, and they tend to appeal to a different kind of fan and collector. But when Comic-Con comes around, they get wonderfully geeky. Hot Wheels Comic-Con exclusives tend to include some classic vehicles from and inspired by superhero and sci-fi properties we love. And 2021, despite its nature once again as a virtual convention, will not differ. Three exclusives announced today hail from the worlds of Marvel, DC, and Star Wars.

DC’s is perhaps the most iconic, as it depicts the first car in the comics to officially get dubbed the Batmobile. The red convertible — yes, red — features mini versions of Batman and Robin in the front seats. Color scheming just isn’t what it used to be.

The Marvel vehicle hails from more recent years, as it features a little Deadpool on his scooter. Its unique package doubles as a display case. (Mattel does not yet have images of this Marvel item to show, as of publication time.)

Finally, from Star Wars, the Darth Vader inspired Hot Wheels design gets a green makeover to resemble the original Marvel comic depiction of the dark lord in that color. Special packaging replicates that cover just so casual fans can see the source directly. Get a few more good looks at the DC and Star Wars vehicles below.

All of Mattel’s Comic-Con exclusives for 2021 will be for sale on Mattel Creations, the company’s collaboration and direct-to-consumer platform, on Thursday, July 22 at 9am PST / 12pm EST. So may the gods have mercy on their servers that day. Stay tuned for more reveals later this week.
