Hasbro Debuts $700 Auto-Transforming, Programmable Optimus Prime

Every Transformers collector’s toy budget for the year just got blown out. In a surprise reveal at Hasbro Pulse Fan Fest 2021, Kevin Smith and Jason Mewes debuted the ultimate 19-inch Optimus Prime toy. He talks! He “breathes”! Does the hero landing pose! Transforms by himself! Oh, and he’s voice-activated, though phone app control is an option, if the consumer prefers. Program whole sequences, and drive him in truck mode. Containing over 5000 components, 60 microchips and 27 servo motors, this toy does things no Transformers toy has ever done. But these unique features don’t come cheap. He does at least come with a carry case.

Unlike a lot of high-end items, this Optimus won’t take a year to arrive. He’s coming Aug 2nd, and preorders at Hasbro Pulse just opened for premium members. If they don’t all snap him up, everyone else will have a chance to drop $700 later today. The figure is made by Robosen in association with Hasbro.

Other Hasbro Transformers reveals include evil Blurr from the Shattered Glass comics, in which Autobots and Decepticons reverse roles. Rodimus Prime gets a commander class figure, Rhinox is coming to Kingdom, and new fossil Wingfinger cuts a comical figure as a Pteranodon skeleton. Plus a core collection Soundwave with classic boombox mode.

Most will join Optimus for preorder later today (watch this space). But get an early gander in our gallery below.

Which will you pick up? Can you spare the $700 for Optimus? Let us know in comments.
