Tomorrow, fans will explore the Jedi’s early history when Lucasfilm launches its Star Wars: The High Republic publishing initiative. This “multi-year project” assembles a laundry list of big-name creators to spin brand new tales set 200 years before the Skywalker Saga began. To usher in this bold new era of Star Wars storytelling, Lucasfilm hosted a special livestream event. They also unveiled a new High Republic trailer, which you can check out below.
The trailer outlines the Jedi Order’s mission during this era, which is to “shine its light in even the darkest corners of the galaxy.” Unfortunately, they run into trouble when they encounter a new evil that puts their training to the ultimate test. Through novels, comics, and magazines, readers will see how the events of this time period shaped the galaxy as we came to know it in George Lucas’ original films.

Lucasfilm’s livestream event also featured appearances by several writers and artists who are part of the High Republic braintrust, including Charles Soule, whose new novel, Light of the Jedi is one of three new books hitting stores tomorrow. Soule previously kicked off The High Republic last month with a short story published in Star Wars Insider #199. The official Star Wars magazine will also publish more High Republic tales later this year. The stories will be written by Justina Ireland and Cavan Scott, who also appeared during the livestream. Ireland’s A Test of Courage and Scott’s The Great Jedi Rescue are releasing tomorrow as well. Both of these books are aimed at younger readers.
Of course, The High Republic does more than follow the comic exploits of the Jedi. Readers will also meet characters from a variety of other backgrounds, including pilots, smugglers, and new creatures. The livestream treated fans to several new pieces of concept art for these characters. You can view these, along with covers for other upcoming books, in the gallery below.
