In the original four-issue comic miniseries, the Mutant Leader was among the most memorable additions to Batman canon. While other foes opposing a newly unretired Batman in the series had classic pasts — A “cured” Two-Face, “rehabbed” Joker, and Reagan-loving Superman — the new, shirtless shades-wearer led a gang that terrorized a futuristic Gotham City. After his defeat at the hands of Batman, many of the mutants rebranded as Sons of the Batman. In breaking their cult leader, Bruce Wayne effectively became the new one.
