Since its inception in 2009, Disney has scheduled D23 on a biannual basis. However, 2021 will be another skip year for the D23 Expo. But Disney may have a good reason for waiting until 2022 beyond the COVID-19 pandemic. 2022 will mark the 100th anniversary of Disney itself, and the company plans to celebrate at D23.
The announcement for D23 Expo 2022 came via the official D23 Twitter account. Additionally, it revealed that the expo will take place from September 9-11 at the Anaheim Convention Center.

Disney’s last D23 Expo in 2019 featured a lot of Marvel Studios news, including the reveal of Moon Knight, She-Hulk, and Ms. Marvel series on Disney+. That was also where Lucasfilm announced Ewan McGregor’s return for an Obi-Wan series as well. Presumably Disney will use D23 2022 to make additional Marvel and Star Wars reveals. D23 has also proven to be a valuable showcase for Disney’s upcoming films from Pixar and 20th Century Studios.
