Mondo and Marvel have worked together in the past, with a Venom-style Madball-esque toy as last year’s Comic-Con exclusive. But to date, all their larger superhero figures have come from the DC catalogue, primarily Batman: The Animated Series. That’s about to change. In 2019, the company announced a mecha-hero line on the way, depicting iconic characters as robots. This weekend, they revealed the first one: a 10-inch Mondo Spider-Man mech with echoes of both Evangelion and sp//dr. This Spidey can come in two paint schemes, with an all-black Mondo Shop exclusive accompanying the classic colors mass release.

But that’s not all. Mondo also plans a line of Marvel soft vinyl toys, with more elaborate sculpts than the typical such item might suggest. Check out the concept art for James Groman’s Man-Thing. If the final product even approaches that level of detail, it will blow some minds. And Mondo so far always delivers on that score.
Collectors have until November to save up for Spider-Man, and next summer for Man-Thing. Mondo showed off an elaborate robot Captain America prototype last year, but have uttered no words lately on when stores might see it in stock.
