Transformers R.E.D. Figures Offer 6-Inch, Articulated, Non-Converting Classics

In what feels like an attempt by Hasbro to standardize their basic figure scale across all brands, Transformers are going 6-inch. Like Marvel Legends, G.I. Joe Classified, Ghostbusters, and Power Rangers Lightning Collection, Transformers now appear in a highly articulated, 6-inch series with attention to detail based on classic appearances. Titled Transformers R.E.D. (Robot Enhanced Detail), the first pair of figures utilize Generation 1 animated designs, and do not transform. Naturally, those initial offerings are the two most iconic ‘bots: Optimus Prime and Megatron.

From Hasbro: “All figures in the collection are 6-inches in scale and inspired by iconic characters from the TRANSFORMERS universe, including G1, TRANSFORMERS: PRIME, BEAST WARS: TRANSFORMERS, and beyond. R.E.D. figures do not convert, but are highly poseable and were designed to bring collectors the most screen-accurate versions of their favorite characters to display on their shelves.”

Optimus, leader of the Autobots, and top Decepticon Megatron include up to seven accessories including alternate hands. Like Hasbro’s other 6-inch collector lines, they start at $19.99. Unlike some, Transformers R.E.D. will be exclusive to Walmart and Hasbro Pulse. Preorders open Friday, June 26th, at 1 p.m. eastern.

Moreover, nothing about the line description suggests that it will exclusively feature animated characters. “Screen-accurate” covers movies and TV. Though a lot likely depends on how well Prime and Megatron sell.
