The Hollywood Reporter says that Transformers director Michael Bay got so involved in the movie’s marketing that he filmed commercials for three promotional partners.
Bay shot spots for General Motors, Burger King and PepsiCo’s Mountain Dew. For GM alone, he directed five different commercials.
“Having the director of the film involved in the production of the partners’ promotional spots ensured the spots were in sync with the tone of the film,” said LeeAnne Stables, senior vp worldwide marketing partnerships at Paramount, which will release the film next Monday.
Four GM vehicles are featured in the movie, and a Mountain Dew vending machine also makes a cameo appearance.
