New Batman Begins Set Reports!

‘D$$$’ has provided us with a picture featuring the helicopter being used for Batman Begins filming. Watch out for one of these puppies…

An anonymous scooper also sent this in about the filming (includes scene spoilers)…

I was at the Batman begins shooting over that last 2 nights. Yesterday there were plenty of cops, shots of the bridge, and stuff that was already covered. Tonight there was a Helicopter with a camera filming the river, at one point they raised 3 bridges along Wacker for a scene. After that the wind picked up and the copter didn’t return. I heard from one of the staff that they were supposed to chase the Batmobile through the buildings with a copter, but it was too dangerous to do it last night with all the wind. Tonight filming consisted of filming the commissioner barking orders at Gorden who is supposed to be driving the Batmobile. Yesterday they were filming the Batmobile fishtailing just over the bridge. Tonight they had a boiler truck creating steam to replicate broken water mains and a hydrant. During one scene the batmobile drives past the commissioner forcing him up on the sidewalk, as the hydrant explodes, the GPD turns to look at the “L” tracks (Supposedly Batman is supposed to be hanging off the train) After that shot, they ushered all the extras off set and filmed a police chase up Wacker drive, which I didn’t see, except for the occasional GPD police car and another rigged with cameras drive through the “ROAD CLOSED” baracades set up on Wacker then turn around and return the their starting positions. I also learned that at one point the Batmobile was supposed to be chased through a parking garage, jump to another, then to another building, then onto an expressway. They couldn’t get permission through Chicago to jump through actual parking garages, so those shots will be model work and CGI, but the last part of the scene, where the Batmobile jumps onto the expressway will be shot in Waukegan in the next couple of weeks.

‘Matthewscott’ adds the following about Tuesday’s shoot…

Just came back from tonight’s shoot. GPD air patrol was in full effect, spotlighting the action below. I was 20 feet from the chopper on the parking garage roof with some other lucky geeks. Didn’t have my video cam with me and by the time I ran back to work, grabbed it, and took a cab back they were done. Still, what a rush!
