Box Office Mojo reports that Sony and Revolution’s Hellboy earned an estimated $23.5 million from 3,028 theaters this weekend to top the box office. The $60 million-budgeted Guillermo del Toro comic book adaptation averaged a good $7,760 per location.
The Rock’s “Walking Tall” took second with $15.3 million from 2,836 theaters, “Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed” was third with $15.1 million, “Home on the Range” made $14 million from 3,047 theaters for fourth place, and Mel Gibson’s “The Passion of the Christ” added another $9.9 million for a massive total of $330.1 million.
