Columbia Pictures and Revolution Pictures’ Hellboy earned $8.97 million from 3,028 theaters on Friday. Written and directed by Guillermo del Toro, the comic book adaptation carried a production budget of about $60 million.
Second place for the day belong to The Rock’s action remake “Walking Tall,” which made $5.3 million from 2,836 theaters. In third was Disney’s “Home on the Range” with $4 million from 3,047 theaters. Fourth belonged to Warner Bros.’ “Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed” with $3.7 million, which has made $38.6 million in two weeks.
Paramount’s “The Prince and Me” rounded out the top five with $3.5 million from 2,682 theaters. Mel Gibson’s “The Passion of the Christ” added another $2.6 million for a massive total of $322.8 million so far.
