Spider-Man, MiB & More DVDs are Honored

The following is from a press release which announced that Columbia TriStar Home Entertainment has received a record number of DVD certifications.

The impressive DVD sales of 63 classic, soon-to-be classic, and recent blockbuster movies are being honored with DVD Certification Awards from the Video Software Dealers Association (VSDA), VSDA President Bo Andersen announced today. DVDs receiving awards include “Lawrence of Arabia,” “Taxi Driver,” “Ghostbusters,” “Jerry Maguire,” and “Spider-Man.” All 63 DVD titles were released by Columbia TriStar Home Entertainment and, according to Andersen, it is the largest group of titles certified for a single studio at one time since the program’s inception in 2000. VSDA’s DVD Certification Program recognizes DVD sales at three levels in excess of 500,000 units.

“These most-recent certified titles reflect the vast appeal of movies on DVD,” said VSDA president Bo Andersen. “Consumers are building solid DVD libraries with an impressive breadth of titles that range across all eras and genres. VSDA is proud to recognize the success being enjoyed by these titles and Columbia TriStar Home Entertainment.”

Twelve of the honored releases achieved platinum certification, recognizing sales in excess of 2,000,000 units. These releases encompass action titles (“Men In Black,” “Men In Black II,” “Spider-Man”), comedies (“Maid In Manhattan,” “The Wedding Planner”), a thriller (“Panic Room”), and a family title (“Stuart Little 2”).

Other titles, ranging from classics (“Lawrence of Arabia” and “Taxi Driver”) and soon-to-be classics (“Ghostbusters,” “A Few Good Men,” “Jerry Maguire,” and “A River Runs Through It”) to newer releases (“I Spy,” “Memento,” and “Punch Drunk Love”), were awarded certifications in the gold (1,000,000 units) and silver categories (500,000 units).
