X-Men: Apocalypse – May 22, 2016
Director Bryan Singer returns to the franchise, making this the fourth film in the series that he’s directed. Written by Simon Kinberg, X-Men: Apocalypse serves as a cap on the trilogy that began with X-Men: First Class and continued with X-Men: Days of Future Past. The core cast members of those films will be featured at the center once again including Michael Fassbender as Magneto, James McAvoy as Charles Xavier, Jennifer Lawrence as Mystique, and Nicholas Hoult as Beast.
Many new cast members will also appear in the film, playing not only young versions of characters we’ve already seen in the series but also some that we haven’t. Alexandra Shipp will appear as Storm in the movie along with Sophie Turner as Jean Grey, Ben Hardy as Angel, Tye Sheridan as Cyclops, Olivia Munn as Psylocke and Lana Condor as Jubilee.
Some other supporting cast members that are returning include Rose Byrne as Moira MacTaggert, Evan Peters as Quicksilver, and Lucas Till as Havok. Another mutant set to appear in the film is the leader of the Morlock, Caliban, as confirmed by director Bryan Singer. How he fits into the narrative and who will play him remains a mystery though.
The title villain will be played by Star Wars: The Force Awakens star Oscar Isaac, whose first look photos caused a bit of a stir online. It was confirmed that the character will assemble his trademark “horsemen” for the movie and that the characters Storm, Psylocke, Angel, and Magneto will fill those roles.
Finally, the film’s official synopsis was recently released and reads as follows:
Since the dawn of civilization, he was worshiped as a god. Apocalypse, the first and most powerful mutant from Marvel’s X-Men universe, amassed the powers of many other mutants, becoming immortal and invincible. Upon awakening after thousands of years, he is disillusioned with the world as he finds it and recruits a team of powerful mutants, including a disheartened Magneto (Michael Fassbender), to cleanse mankind and create a new world order, over which he will reign. As the fate of the Earth hangs in the balance, Raven (Jennifer Lawrence) with the help of Professor X (James McAvoy) must lead a team of young X-Men to stop their greatest nemesis and save mankind from complete destruction.
