Doctor Doom Talk with Fantastic Four’s Toby Kebbell

Toby Kebbell on playing the villain Doctor Doom

The last time Toby Kebbell played a villain, it was for 2014’s Dawn of the Planet of the Apes and he was virtually unrecognizable as Caesar’s nemesis Koba mainly because he performed the CG role on set using performance capture technology. He once again plays the antagonist in 20th Century Fox’s Fantastic Four as one of Marvel Comics’ most enduring super villains, Doctor Doom, and while there are elements that have changed, it’s still essentially the same Doom who has plagued the Marvel Universe for over five decades.

Kebbell’s Victor Von Doom is a computer expert working with Reed Richards (Miles Teller), Sue and Johnny Storm (Kate Mara, Michael B. Jordan) and Ben Grimm (Jamie Bell) before an accident leaves the latter four with powers. Victor is left in a remote dimension, thought dead, but there he gains his own powers and goes quite mad. He returns as the powerful Doctor Doom, who the four have to stop from destroying the earth.

SuperHeroHype had previously sat down with Kebbell at Comic-Con to learn more about his take on Doom, but we had another chance to speak with him at the New York junket, an interview which you can watch in the video player below where we spoke about various aspects of playing Doom (including what was involved physically on set) as well as whether we might see him again in a future FF movie.

You can see Toby Kebbell as Doctor Doom in theaters on Friday, August 7.
