Exclusive: Clark Gregg on His Marvel Universe Future

Actor Clark Gregg introduced film’s first agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. into Marvel Comics’ big-screen universe in the first Iron Man movie, and the actor confirmed to SuperHeroHype that he’s not just back for the sequel and that there’s more Agent Coulson on the way.

Warning: Spoilers Coming Up!

Gregg, who also stars in the CBS sitcom “The New Adventures of Old Christine,” returns for Iron Man 2 along with S.H.I.E.L.D. director Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson), and moviegoers listening closely to his dialogue will learn that Tony Stark isn’t the only Marvel superhero Agent Coulson will be keeping tabs on.

“I just have been in New Mexico where I was a little more busy, dealing with the arrival of a certain Norse god,” Gregg told SuperHeroHype, confirming his participation in the upcoming Thor.

Asked if he’s going to be more front and center with Marvel’s famed God of Thunder, Gregg merely smiled enigmatically and promised simply, “I’ll be there.”

He did admit that moviegoers will see Coulson getting more S.H.I.E.L.D.-esque spy action than he sees in the “Iron Man” films. “I get to do some exciting things in some of the new stuff,” he revealed.

Gregg said he’s thrilled to be a part of the ever-expanding Marvel Universe in the movies. “Agent Coulson was one of the guys who wasn’t really in the comic books, and he was a very kind of small role in ‘Iron Man,'” he said, “and I was just very lucky that they chose to expand that character and chosen to put him more into the universe of it. It’s really a blast!”

Iron Man 2 opens in the North America on Friday, May 7 (click here for worldwide release dates).
