Families need to play together, and game suggestions are at hand. Be they video, board, or based on same, our guide wants to aid your fun time. In this ongoing series, Superhero Hype takes a look at some of the better deals Amazon.com has running as of publication time. This week, we’re going a little further afield, having already shared deals on some of the more obvious A-list titles, to find highly rated sci-fi and fantasy games that might be less obvious, but come highly recommended. (And are cheap or discounted, of course.) Also there’s one game-based toy on the list, because it’s too cool not to include. Please note that all deals are subject to change or sell out at any time based on supply and demand. Here are the deals for Sept 21:
Outer Wilds – Xbox One [Digital Code]
It’s Groundhog Day in space, as the player gets caught in a 22-minute time loop that always ends in the sun going supernova. Find out why, and what the alien race that once inhabited the orbiting world have to do with it.
The Outer Worlds Playstation 4
At the furthest edge of the galaxy, uncover a vast conspiracy to destroy the human colony there. In this first-person RPG, the player’s unique flaws may give them strength. The game tracks the things the player is not good at, and compensates in other areas. Gather a crew, and either guide them or leave them to their own devices. Monsters and corrupt corporatists await.
A Plague Tale: Innocence (PS4) – PlayStation 4
Avoid swarms of plague rats and the Inquisition, and try to figure out which is worse. In medieval France, the goal is to stay alive long enough to find the origins of the disease ravaging the human population and carried by rodents. Stealth is the key.
RELATED: Remnant: From The Ashes – PlayStation 4 (PS4)
Travel through portals to fantasy dimensions and discover the evil forces attacking our world. Dynamically changing worlds shift shapeactime they’re played through. Upgrade and team up with one or two other players to increase the odds of survival. Think Dark Souls with a gun and you’re not far off.
Sayonara Wild Hearts Standard – [Switch Digital Code]
We can’t beat the official description of “a dreamy arcade game about riding motorcycles, skateboarding, dance battling, shooting lasers, wielding swords, and breaking hearts at 200 mph. As the heart of a young woman breaks, the balance of the universe is disturbed. A diamond butterfly appears in her dreams and leads her through a highway in the sky, where she finds her other self: the masked biker called The Fool.” For $12.99, that sounds like a journey worth trying.
Sekiro Shadows Die Twice – PC
Face larger-than-life foes in a twisted alternate reality version of 16th century Japan. Regain your honor in a perilous quest by killing “ingeniously.” You are the one-armed wolf, disfigured and rescued from the brink of death, bound to protect a young lord no matter who or what tries to destroy him. From the creators of Bloodborne and Dark Souls.
Slay The Spire – Nintendo Switch
Play as one of four heroes ascending the Spire and slaying monsters in this virtual collectible card game. No real-life magic needed here, though — $19.99 plus tax will have fans gathering their credit cards for quick and easy purchase.
Wasteland 3 – PS4 – PlayStation 4
In a post-nuclear wild west, this party-based RPG sends your team into Colorado, to save its patriarch from his three bloodthirsty children. Help him, and he’ll help you win back Arizona. Generally positive reviews and a 17% discount ought to be of assistance here.
Yooka-Laylee: The Impossible Lair – PlayStation 4
The cutest chameleon and bat combo engage in another throwback adventure with a 2D-style platformer reminiscent of Donkey Kong Country and the like. Rescue Queen Phoebe’s Royal Battalion Guard, and learn new skills on each level that will prove essential to conquering the final stage: the aptly named Impossible Lair.
McFarlane Toys Doom Slayer: DOOMicorn Action Figure
Say it once, say it loud. “I’m a Doom slayer, and I’m proud.” It’s a new day for the protagonist of the O.G. first-person shooter classic, yes it is, when he adopts a unicorns-and-rainbows skin. It may come as a joke in the game, but it’s no joke to all the magical pony fans out there who also like to blast hellbeasts with shotguns.
