Note From the Editor: Superhero Hype’s cosplay correspondent, Ashlynne Dae, is sharing one of her latest costumes in the new year. This week’s column is devoted to Dinah Lance a.k.a. Black Canary. Within the comics, Black Canary was a co-founder of the Birds of Prey, as well as a member of both the Justice Society and the Justice League. She has also been Green Arrow’s long time partner, and she was featured in Arrow for several seasons. However, this particular costume revisits Black Canary’s classic fishnets outfit instead of the Arrowverse incarnation.
Black Canary is another cosplay I have revisited after a few years since my original costume.

Someday I may borrow my OG Black Canary costume, or make a new one, and reshoot her again!

I had initially made a costume based off of Ed Benes' zip up leotard version of Dinah, which I had given to my friend, Reagan Kathryn, a few years back. So I knew I wanted to make a version different from my original!

I ended up basing my new one off her many Playboy bunny bustier style iterations. Honestly, bustiers are not crime fighting friendly and much less practical than even my first version. Hah!

I modernized my version a bit, I have never been a fan of her fold over pirate looking boots and how clunky her leather jacket looked. So, I made my version a bit more sleek!

I have always identified with Dinah, not because I am a martial arts master (far from it!), or into fighting crime in back alleys in my spare time.
Instead, it's because I have an ear-splittingly loud scream. If you've ever met me, then you most likely have experienced that first hand!
