The Hellfire Gala was an iconic event born of the Krakoa Age of X-Men comics. Marvel‘s Mutants gathered to show off the wonders of their new nation. However, the galas went beyond showcasing interesting costume variants and also set up major storylines. This tradition continues in 2025, with X-Men: Hellfire Vigil.
Presented by an all-star team of Marvel Comics‘ writers and artists, the Hellfire Vigil special will set the stage for the next year of X-Men. The story is set one year after the last Hellfire Gala. It was here that a cowardly attack and smear campaign by anti-Mutant bigots struck a cruel blow against the Mutant homeland.

However, while they may be bloodied, the Mutant people are not beaten. This consequently leads to a new Hellfire Gala, held as a vigil for the fallen and all that was lost. However, while the purpose for the gathering may be different, the same fancy costumes will remain. So will the personal dramas that define the X-Men comics.

“We’ve been working towards the Hellfire Vigil for a year now,” Marvel Executive Editor Tom Brevoort explained. “All of the assorted X-creators came together to make this a moment of significance for the X-Men and their world as a whole. It’s a capstone to events that began in From The Ashes and sets up major movements that will be playing out across the coming months.”
