While now happily married to Gambit and fully in control of her Mutant powers, Rogue of the X-Men was once tormented by her inability to touch anyone. This raises the question of whether or not she took advantage of the loss of her powers while stranded in the Savage Land. Rogue: The Savage Land #3 confirms that she tried, yet was was rejected in her efforts.

Written by Tim Seeley, with art by Zulema Scotto Lavina, Rogue: The Savage Land #3 continues exploring an untold chapter of X-Men history. Anna Marie was famously stranded in the Savage Land for several months, after a battle with Carol Danvers. However, her story did not pick up again until several issues later.

Here, Anna Marie was suddenly allied with Magneto and the jungle hero Ka-Zar, fighting to save the Savage Land from Zaladane. No explanation was offered for how Rogue survived her time in the wild until the current miniseries. Also, there was no exploration of how Rogue might have taken advantage of her power loss.
Who did Rogue try and fail to seduce?
Some fans expected to see a romance bloom between Anna Marie and Magneto. Such a relationship was established recently in the reality of X-Men ’97. This, in turn, was based on Magneto’s musing on a spark blooming between them in Uncanny X-Men #274. However, the Master of Magnetism declined to act on the inclination.

Rogue: The Savage Land #3 shows Anna Marie going in an unexpected direction. After Magneto retires for the night, she tries to make a move on Ka-Zar. While the defender of the Savage Land is flattered, he politely turns her down, pointing out that he is married and that his wife, Shanna, would kill them both.

This only further embarrasses Rogue, who says she asked Ka-Zar because he was “about my age.” This exchange is overheard by Magneto, who looks troubled by the statement. This seems to suggest the subject of a May/December Rogue/Magneto romance might be broached in later chapters.
