The Batmobile is one of the most iconic items among the many wonderful toys employed by Batman. The name is a bit of a misnomer, however, as the Dark Knight employs many different cars in his war on crime. The latest model is revealed in the opening of Detective Comics #1094.

Written by Tom Taylor, with art by Mikel Janin, Detective Comics #1094 continues the Mercy of the Father storyline. A mysterious assailant is murdering teenagers who were released early from a juvenile detention program. This pushed Batman and his allies to start acting as bodyguards to the reformed criminals. As the issue opens, the Dark Knight and a potential victim are in bad shape. This pushes Batman to reveal a new feature of his latest Batmobile. Namely, that it can effectively function as an ambulance, with the resources to perform a blood transfusion.

The first four pages of Detective Comics #1094 may be viewed below.

Why Batman needs a Bat-Ambulance

Some may question why Batman would need an ambulance built into the Batmobile. While the Dark Knight is famed for being prepared for anything, there’s still only so much he can fit within his car. Additionally, it is unclear if Bruce Wayne has comparable medical training to an EMT. While he would likely want to help injured civilians if he could, his ability to do so is in doubt.

However, the new Batmobile makes sense when one consider recent events in the Batman comics. Namely, the Dark Knight no longer has Alfred Pennyworth at home to act as his in-home combat medic. This makes it all the more vital that he insure he has a way to treat his injuries (or the injuries of others) while in motion.

Detective Comics #1094 arrives in comic shops everywhere on February 26. 2025.
