DC Comics previously announced a new Supergirl series as part of 2025’s Summer of Superman event. The details were revealed at the 2025 ComicsPro convention. Along with the new comic book, Supergirl will be getting a new, yet familiar, costume.
The new costume most closely resembles the look Supergirl sported in the early 21st century following her reintroduction to the Superman books in 2004. The new costume is modeled on Superman’s, but with a skirt and belly-bearing shirt. The updated costume sports a longer, more conservative skirt and thigh-boots, rather than ankle-boots. The skirt is also red rather than the blue of the classic Michael Turner design.
An image of the Turner design and the new costume as depicted by Stanley “Artgerm” Lau can be viewed below.

Who is the new Supergirl creative team?
The new Supergirl book will be written and illustrated by Sophie Campbell. Campbell is best known for her recent work as the writer and artist on IDW’s TMNT monthly series. Before that, she partnered with Kelly Thompson on a Jem and the Holograms comic.
“I came up in the comics industry doing mostly graphic novels that I wrote and drew myself, so doing the same with Supergirl feels like I’m returning to my storytelling roots,” said Campbell. “My main touchstones to Kara Zor-El were the stories and the wild costumes from the 70’s, the 1984 Supergirl movie, and The CW show, which I was a huge fan of. In creating this version of Supergirl, I’ll be drawing on some of those influences as the series unfolds.”
The new book will find Kara Zor-El returning to the town of Midvale. This follows events which push her to seek a new direction amid familiar surroundings. This will also prompt her return to something closer to her classic costume.
Supergirl #1 arrives in comic shops everywhere on May 14, 2025.
