In 2024, Titan Comics made history with their publication of Conan: Battle of the Black Stone. The miniseries represented the single largest crossover of Robert E. Howard characters in a single story. A follow-up. Conan: Scourge of the Serpent, is planned for later this year. However, this epic tale will begin with another notable story, Solomon Kane: The Serpent Ring.
Written and drawn by Patch Zircher, the new miniseries is the first to headline Howard’s Puritan witch-hunter in 15 years. The preview finds Kane sailing on the Barbary Coast. He is used to working alongside evil men for righteous causes, but his current mission tests his faith sorely. However, the true test will come with he encounters the titular Serpent Ring.

An ancient evil returns in Solomon Kane: The Serpent Ring
Fans of Conan the Barbarian will likely recognize the name of the Serpent Ring. Properly known as the Serpent Ring of Set, it was the signature weapon of the Stygian sorcerer Thoth-Amon. He and the ring both appeared in the first Conan story, “The Phoenix on the Sword.” While he and Conan never fought directly in the original Howard stories, later writers reimagined Thoth-Amon as Conan’s archenemy.
Having the ring reappear thousands of years later in the time of Solomon Kane is not entirely unexpected. Howard set most of his stories in a shared world, with his characters separated only by time. He also wrote several stories teaming his heroes, as when the Atlantean King Kull traveled in time to fight alongside the Pict chieftain Bran Mak Morn in “Kings of the Night.” Given that, Solomon Kane: The Serpent Ring #1 is continuing a tradition that Howard himself started.
