Arthur Curry has been many things in his life; an outcast, a husband, a father, and a king. Mostly, he has been a hero, defending Earth’s oceans on his own and as part of the Justice League. The new Aquaman series sees him reclaiming his place among the World’s Finest heroes, despite new powers and new challenges.
Written by Jeremy Adams, with art by John Timms, Aquaman #1 opens in a time of great change. Arthur Curry once again sits on the throne of Atlantis, having previously abdicated in favor of his wife, Mera. He is also taking on a more active role in the new Justice League. However, this new work/life balance is only the first of the challenges he must face.

New Aquaman series gives Arthur Curry new powers and new enemies
Jeremy Adams stated, in an interview with Comic Book Club Live, that the biggest challenge with Aquaman is winning over new readers.
“It’s not going to be palace intrigue,” notes Adams. I’m not smart enough for that. It’s going to be about Arthur Curry and not just what makes him special.”
To that end, the book opens with Arthur trying to master a new power set. Reportedly Aquaman gained water control abilities as a side effect of the mass power shifts sparked by the Absolute Power event. Beyond giving him a common touchstone with his wife, Mera, this sets the stage for a conflict with the evil New Gods of Apokolips.
Aquaman #1 arrives in comic shops everywhere on January 8, 2025.
