In recent years, the Marvel Comics Multiverse has expanded in unexpected ways across multiple media. Comics like Edge of the Spider-Verse and Venomverse Reborn have fueled this expansion, introducing many variants of Spider-Man and Venom. However, the long conflict between spiders and symbiotes will come to a head in a new event, titled Spider-Verse vs. Venomverse.
The five-issue miniseries will team writers Kyle Higgins and Mat Groom with artist Luciano Vecchio. However, before Spider-Verse vs. Venomverse begins in earnest, Marvel will also publish two anthology specials. These one-shots, Web of Spider-Verse: New Blood and Venomverse: Fresh Brains, will introduce several new variants with major roles in the upcoming event.
“When Dan Slott and Olivier Copiel launched the Spider-Verse in 2014, it transformed the Spider-Man mythos and completely took over the world,” Groom said. “Since then, creators like Donny Cates, Al Ewing and Ram V have transformed the Venom mythos in a way that is arguably just as vital and transformative. Crashing these worlds together is a genuine honor and a privilege, and it gives us an opportunity to push both sides to the breaking point, so we can all discover whether the Spider and Symbiote communities hold strong against the oncoming storm… or if they crack under the pressure!”
How Spider-Verse vs. Venomverse begins
The SpiderVerse vs. Venomverse war begins in March with Web of Spider-Verse: New Blood #1. Spider-Man and his allies are the guardians of the Web of Life and Destiny. However, the rise of a new Symbiote Hive-Mind will threaten all their existences. The special will introduce three new variants: Count Parker, Spider-Hulk, and Spider-Prowler. Beyond Groom and Vecchio, the special will also feature the work of Jordan Morris, Greg Pak, Sumit Kumar, and Alan Robinson.
The story continues in April, with Web of Venomverse: Fresh Brains #1. This special will see the symbiotes of the multiverse teaming to defend themselves against the Spiders. The special will introduce a new version of Eddie Brock, the deadly Venomouse, and the disorderly Katie Power. This issue will also mark the Marvel Comics debut of actor/writer David Dastmalchian. He will be joined on the special by Erica Schultz, Chris Allen, Dylan Burnett, and Juan Jose Rvp. Both specials will include the work of Mat Groom, Luciano Vecchio, and Chris Eliopoulos.
Web of Spider-Verse: New Blood #1 releases on March 5, 2025, while Web of Venomverse: Fresh Brains #1 arrives in comic shops everywhere on April 2, 2025.
