Marvel Comics is trying to strengthen the synergy between gamers and comic readers. The new PVP shooter Marvel Rivals is a smash hit, with players assembling their own squads of superheroes and villains. However, most of these new players are not reading the comics that inspired the game. To that end, Marvel has released a new comic based on the game, as well as some incentives for new fans.
The Marvel Unlimited digital comic service is publishing an exclusive Marvel Infinity comic series based on the game. Written by Paul Allor with art by Luca Claretti, the six-issue storyline will release new issues weekly, starting December 16, 2024. With high-octane battles, team-ups, and battles across the multiverse, the series is geared towards Marvel Rivals fans.
Marvel Comics has another incentive to encourage Marvel Rivals players to subscribe to Marvel Unlimited. Starting on January 3, 2025, all subscribers will be gifted a special Jeff the Land Shark “Unlimited Appetite” spray for use in the game. However, this spray will only be available to those who start a subscription before December 25, 2024.
Marvel also offers Marvel Rivals material for RPG
Beyond luring video game players into reading comics, Marvel also wants to encourage interest in the Marvel Multiverse Role-Playing Game. The pen-and-paper based RPG gives players the chance to become their favorite heroes. To that end, Marvel is releasing a free supplement for the Marvel Multiverse RPG based on Marvel Rivals.
Starting December 20, players will be able to download 12 free character sheets from the Marvel Multiverse RPG website. These sheets will offer statistics for the Marvel Rivals versions of Spider-Man, Iron Man, Scarlet Witch, and more. There will also be a new Yggsard Royal Palace play map and several alternate game modes. However, players will need some dice, some friends, and the Marvel Multiverse RPG code book to take advantage of this material.
Marvel Rivals Infinity Comic Series #1 is now available on Marvel Unlimited.
