Stephen Strange Seeks New Power in Doctor Strange of Asgard Comic Series

In the wake of the Blood Hunt event, Doctor Doom claimed the title of Sorcerer Supreme. Since that time, apart from assisting Spider-Man in his duties as Doom’s champion, Doctor Strange has scarcely been seen. The question of what Stephen Strange has been doing since his position was usurped will be addressed in a new series; Doctor Strange of Asgard.

The new series will take the former Sorcerer Supreme into the Golden Realm of the Norse gods. It will be written by Derek Landy, best known for Captain America/Iron Man. The artwork will be provided by Captain America artist Carlos Magno.

New series pits Doctor Strange against Thor and Loki

Doctor Strange of Asgard finds the former Sorcerer Supreme suffering an identity crisis. Bereft of purpose (and perhaps a little hungry for payback against Doom), he travels to Asgard. It is his hope that the magical realm might need a Sorcerer Supreme to manage it.

However, the magic of the Norse gods is not easily mastered. Even with the questionable help of Loki, Doctor Strange will have his hands full with new challenges. These chiefly concern secrets that will arouse the anger of Thor. Moreover, they will risk a war between Asgard’s existing magic users.

“It’s been a daunting prospect, taking the reins of Doctor Strange and leading him into a new era,” Landy shared. “To follow on from the last few years of stories, which have seen huge creative leaps from astonishing creative teams, would have been a terrifying prospect were it not for Editor Alanna Smith’s primary instruction: move him to Asgard. Suddenly we’re in new territory, where not only does Strange have to deal with Asgardian society on a street level, but he’s also caught up in a murder mystery that he really doesn’t have time for.”

Doctor Strange of Asgard #1 arrives in comic shops everywhere on March 5. 2025.
