Godzilla has faced many rivals and challenges in his long life. He even faced the Justice League in 2024. Now, the King of All Monsters will stand against the heroes of Marvel Comics in a six-issue miniseries.
THR reported on the upcoming event, which has no scheduled release date beyond some time in 2025. The miniseries will be written by Ryan North, with art by John Romita Jr. Each issue will take place at a different point along the Marvel timeline.
The first issue will pit Godzilla against the Fantastic Four, at some point early in their careers. This issue will also feature King Ghidorah imbued with the Power Cosmic. This will lead to an unlikely team-up between Godzilla and the Silver Surfer.
The history of Godzilla at Marvel Comics
This is not the first time Godzilla has made an appearance in the Marvel Universe. The King of All Monsters had his own solo comic from 1977 to 1979. More recently, he appeared in a series of variant covers. However, this is the first time in decades that Godzilla has appeared inside a comic from the American comics publisher.
The new crossover was the result of years of negotiations with Toho, who manage the Godzilla license. According to Marvel Comics editor in chief C.B. Cebulski, the talks started with negotiations regarding reprinting the original Godzilla comics. However, it soon became apparent that both companies were agreeable to once again pitting the King of All Monsters against Marvel’s heroes.

“These crossovers started coming together over that time, in direct collaboration with Toho,” noted Cebulski. “We felt the perfect time for them was for Godzilla’s 70th anniversary next year. We’ve been thrilled to work with them on these, and we hope this will be a sign for more exciting projects to come.”
