Red Sonja has taken part in many crossovers since Dynamite Entertainment began publishing her adventures in 2005. Most of them teamed her with other pulp heroines, like Vampirella and Dejah Thoris. However, the most unlikely of these was easily 2020’s Mars Attacks Red Sonja, in which the “ack-ack” aliens of Mars Attacks invaded the Hyborian Age. Now, this crossover is getting a sequel in which Red Sonja Attacks Mars.
The sequel will be written by author Jay Stephens, famed for his series Dwellings. He is joined by artist Fran Strukan, who drew the earlier crossover miniseries. Dynamite has also confirmed that Jae Lee, Greg Land, and Joseph Michael Linsner will be providing covers for the first issue.

Red Sonja Attacks Mars a dark comedy mashup
Jay Stephens describes Red Sonja Attacks Mars as “a special Neapolitan twist,” combining dark comedy, sword-and-sorcery, and retro science fiction. The story finds the She-Devil with a Sword paying off a life debt when she discovers a sinister prophecy. To stop the imminent destruction of her world, Sonja must travel from the deserts of her homeland to the shores of the Vilayet Sea. Along the way, she will face more traditional trials as well as the Martians, including serpent men and monster-gods.
“I’m having such a blast! It feels like you could see me drooling over my Norman Saunders (the original Mars Attacks! card creator) art book, which I do more often than would be considered sane,” notes Stephens. “Campy, horrifying, mid-century, and notorious does seem to be my vibe. I’m always striving for that reimagined nostalgia – a sort of irreverent reverence for the things that haunted me as a kid.”
Red Sonja Attacks Mars #1 arrives in comic shops everywhere in March 2025.
