Marvel Comics Offers First Look at X-Men Series Magik #1

Illyana Rasputin has been many things in her young life. A sister. A sorceress. A queen. And a member of the X-Men. However, there is one thing she has never been: star of her own solo series. That changes in 2025, as Marvel Comics gives Magik her own monthly comic book,

Written by Ashley Allen, with art by Germán Peralta, Magik #1 will introduce Illyana and her unique position in the Mutant community. The series will see Illyana embark on a solo quest, to face a threat beneath the Arctic ice of the current X-Men base. For her mystic senses have detected a threat that only she can face. It is an ancient evil known as the Demon Crow and its awakening will likewise restore Illyana’s Darkchylde form. The demonic part of Illyana’s soul will offer her the power she needs to prevail, but will it be worth the cost?

Illyana Rasputin has a surprisingly long history at Marvel Comics, having first appeared alongside her brother, Colossus, in Giant Size X-Men #1. She did not become an active participant in the X-Men’s adventures until years later, when she took on the codename Magik and became Queen of Limbo. Even without that office, she is still notable as a rare Mutant magician. Despite these ties to many worlds, she has always been an ensemble player and never had a solo series of her own.

“Illyana is such an interesting protagonist,” Allen told AIPT in a recent edition of their X-Men Monday column. “She’s a woman who’s gone through a dark past but refuses to let that stop her from doing good in the world. I believe the desire to leave the world a better place than before resonates with a lot of fans (myself included). While she’s snarky and has some walls up, she’s ultimately a sweetheart who loves her friends and family deeply.”

Magik #1 arrives in comic shops everywhere on January 8, 2024.
