Titans #16 Preview Offers First Glimpse of Justice League Watchtower

The DC All-In Special introduced a new Justice League and a new Watchtower. However, the sudden arrival of Darkseid offered little chance for the new base to be explored. Titans #16 by John Layman and Pete Woods offers a more detailed look at the Watchtower. It also explores the team’s place when they are also members of Justice League Unlimited.

The preview of Titans #16 finds the team exploring the Watchtower and the section set aside for them. The base has a number of attractions beyond living quarters, including a zoo containing alien animals. This leads to some tension after Beast Boy tries to mimic one creature that is incredibly territorial.

Titans will continue to operate as part of Justice League Unlimited

Titans #16 is an important issue for many reasons. It marks the series premiere of both Layman and Woods as writer and artist respectively. The issue is also important, given the major role the titular team holds in protecting Earth-Prime.

When the Justice League disbanded following the Dark Crisis event, the Titans stepped up to become Earth’s first line of defense against supernatural and metahuman threats. They did this task well despite the threats posed during the Beast World and Absolute Power events. However, recent trials drove home the need for a more centralized team that could call upon all of Earth’s heroes: Justice League Unlimited.

This raises the question discussed in the preview: What value do the Titans have if they are also members of the Justice League? The answer is also given in the preview, with the team remaining Titans Together, even if they are also JLU members.

Titans #16 arrives in comic shops everywhere on October 16, 2024.
