2024 has seen Marvel Comics and Disney partner on a number of comics blending their characters and concepts. These have ranged from Uncle Scrooge traveling the multiverse to Donald Duck becoming Thor and Wolverine. Next, 2025 will open with a new What If…? special in which Mickey Mouse and his friends become the Fantastic Four.
The special will be titled “What If…? Mickey & Friends Became The Fantastic Four #1.” It will be written by Steve Behling and Riccardo Secchi with art by Lorenzo Pastrovicchio. The special will see Mickey become Mister Fantastic, Minnie as Invisible Woman, Goofy as the Human Torch, and Donald Duck as The Thing.
The special will mirror the structure of Fantastic Four #1 as created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby. From the space voyage that forever changed them, to their first battle with the Mole Man, everything will be reimagined with a little Disney magic. The Mole Man, for instance, is now Mole Pete.
“As a huge [Fantastic Four] fan myself, I can tell you this issue will tickle your nostalgic funny bone,” shared editor Mark Paniccia. Describing the story as “funtastic,” Paniccia promises a comic that will satisfy fans of both beloved franchises.
Mickey & Friends as Fantastic Four variants revealed
Beyond the book’s creative staff, a top-notch team of artists has been assembled to provide the covers. Lorenzo Pastrovicchio will draw the main cover, depicting the Fantastic Four in action. Phil Noto has drawn a variant cover, with Donald/The Thing showing off his strength. The entire team is featured in a dramatic cover by Chrissie Zullo, in which the team is ambushed by one of Mole Pete’s monsters.
