Avengers: Twilight #6 Reveals Surprise Avengers Ally

Avengers: Twilight placed Earth’s Mightiest Heroes in a dark future where superheroes were outlawed. It spoils little to reveal that the team reunites and saves the world in the end. What is surprising, however, is that the team has help from an unexpected ally.

Written by Chip Zdarsky, with art by Daniel Acuna, Avengers: Twilight #6 pits the team against a mind-controlled Hulk. In the end, Thor was forced to give Bruce Banner the death he craved. Tony Stark also sacrificed himself to stop Red Skull from activating his ultimate doomsday device. Both were given a seat in Valhalla, but Thor was still saddened at the loss of two close friends. He returned to Asgard in a foul mood, made fouler still by the presence of a waiting Loki in his throne room.

To Thor’s amazement, Loki had not come to kick him while he was down. Rather, he had come to offer an explanation for one mystery that went unexplained. Namely, how Tyler, a computer expert in the employ of Luke Cage, had managed to broadcast the signal for the Avengers to assemble all the way to Asgard so Thor could answer it. Loki confessed that he had secretly given Tyler the instructions needed to breach dimensions through whispered inspiration.

Naturally, Thor is skeptical as to Loki’s motivations, wondering what mischief he hoped to cause. Loki responded that he had two reasons for doing what he did, and neither were malicious. The first was his belief that Thor had sat on his throne brooding for too long and should rejoin his friends in battle, doing what he does best. The second was the irony that Loki should be responsible for reuniting the original Avengers, when it was his mischief that brought the team together in the first place.
