Many people asked, in the wake of Avengers: Infinity War, why nobody tried to cut off the hand of Thanos. The obvious answer is this would have ended the story far too quickly. Titans #10 by Tom Taylor and Lucas Meyer addresses this issue, with Raven taking matters in hand in a similar conflict (no pun intended.)
The action of Titans #10 centers around an attack by the demonic Trilogy. The half-brother of Raven, Trilogy was jealous of the favor Raven recently gained with their father, Trigon. This followed Raven’s body being taken over by her dark side and embarking on a long-con to corrupt the Titans from within.
Desperate to show-up the Dark Raven, Trilogy stole a magic staff from the armory of Trigon. This enhanced his physique and gave him considerable power. However, the dim-witted Trilogy had not delved the depths of his newfound power before going on a rampage against the Titans. He also failed to defend his most blatantly obvious weakness. This would be his downfall, and lead to Raven not repeating the Avengers‘ mistake with Thanos.
Raven Cuts Off Trilogy’s Hand to Depower Him
Dark Raven removed a portion of Trilogy’s arm with the clever use of a portal. This neatly severed his hand and deprived him of the staff’s power. Perhaps not coincidentally, this trick mimicked a frequent suggestion for how Doctor Strange might have easily ended the fight with Thanos in the MCU.
Trilogy had little chance to brood on his mistake, being trapped in a crystal along with the real Raven. This inspired Dark Raven to begin forging a dark crown to hold all the crystals in which she trapped her enemies. Presumably that includes the Titans, whom it is hinted are starting to grow suspicious of their teammate’s behavior.
