Outsiders #6 Reveals Secret Identity of New Drummer

The Dawn of DC Outsiders series has presented a different take on the classic franchise. Rather than being superheroes who operate outside the law, the new team is more like explorers. Luke Fox, Batwoman, and Drummer delved into the underpinnings of Earth-Prime and the DC Multiverse. This led to a number of discoveries, most of them relating to the original Wildstorm Universe. It also led, in Outsiders #6, to the discovery of Drummer’s secret identity.

Written by Jackson Lanzing and Collin Kelly, with art by Robert Carey, Outsiders #6 found the team drawn into “The Place Between Pages.” Appearing to be an idyllic small town, the place was home to a number of familiar characters. All of them appeared to be comic book characters who no longer existed on Earth-Prime. This included the Golden Age Superman, the angel Zauriel, and Cave Carson.

The Drummer wandered off alone and found a home belonging to someone with the surname Snow. She asked the next door neighbor, the original heroic Richard Dragon, what happened to him. Richard Dragon said he wasn’t sure, but suggested it was best to forget him, whoever he was. This caused Drummer to have a fit, resulting in the team being teleported back to Earth-Prime by their sentient ship, the Carrier.

Once home, the rest of the team grill Drummer on why she acted out. Kate Kane goes one step further, revealing that Drummer had dealt with the Carrier before and that it told Kate her real name. Drummer reluctantly agreed to tell her story, revealing herself to be a woman named Jakita Wagner.

Jakita Wagner and Planetary Explained

Jakita Wagner was one of the core members of the Planetary field team in the original Wildstorm Universe. Described as “archeologists of the impossible,” the Planetary organization investigated the secret history of their world. The field team was made up of four members; the data-manipulating Drummer, the cold-generating Elijah Snow, the super-strong Jakita Wagner, and space-warper Ambrose Chase.

Earlier issues of Outsiders hinted at the new Drummer having a connection to the previous Drummer and the Planetary team. The original team vanished into limbo after the Wildstorm Universe was absorbed into the new DC Universe in 2011 following Flashpoint. It seems apparent now that Outsiders will explore what happened to those characters, like Elijah Snow, still missing from the new Earth-Prime.

Outsiders #6 is now available online and at comic shops everywhere.
