Bureau of Sovereignty head Amanda Waller has long been a thorn in the side of the superhero community. Despite this, the woman called “The Wall” had been a reasonable authority figure, who could work with heroes for the greater good. However, Waller has become more antagonistic over the past year, going out of her way to turn the public against Earth’s superheroes. This has been especially true of the Titans, whom Waller targeted during the Beast World event.
Titans #9 by Tom Taylor and Lucas Meyer sees Amanda Waller reach a new low in her vendetta against the team. This is something of an accomplishment, given her now kidnapping heroes like Dreamer to serve in the Suicide Squad. That was child’s play, however, compared to Waller’s latest escalation in her war on Earth’s superheroes.
Amanda Waller Makes Literal Deal With a Devil
Titans #9 finds Amanda Waller taking a meeting with the demon Trigon. The two have a mutual interest in Raven, Trigon’s daughter, who was recently taken over by her dark side. It is Trigon’s hope that the new Raven will become the general he always wished her to be. However, repeated defeats at the Titans’ hands have made him wary of Raven’s plan to corrupt the Titans from within. To that end, Trigon offers Amanda Waller the power she craves. In exchange, she agrees to use her authority to separate Raven from her teammates in the Titans.
While Amanda Waller has always sought power, the woman who started the Suicide Squad never seemed the type to accept a Faustian pact. Despite her connections, it seems unlikely that “the Wall” might easily oppose a Prince of Hell. Then again, if there is any mortal who might be able to outwit the Devil himself, it is Amanda Waller.
Titans #9 is now available at comic shops everywhere.
