The relationship between Supergirl and Power Girl is a complicated one. Despite being variants of the same person, they couldn’t be more different. However, the two heroes must overcome their baggage to deal with a strange new street drug.

Power Girl #6 by Leah Williams and Marguerite Sauvage details the rise of Avalon. The hottest party drug among the youth of Metropolis, Avalon makes its users imagine they’re traveling to a fantasy kingdom outside of reality. The shocking truth is that may indeed be the case. The Power Girl/Supergirl Relationship Explained

Originally, Power Girl was Superman’s cousin on the parallel world of Earth-2. Her inclusion in the post-Crisis DC Universe was the result of a convoluted new backstory. Her original history was restored in 2005’s Infinite Crisis, but this left her feeling like a third wheel alongside the Supergirl of the new Prime Earth.

Different writers have written the two heroes as feeling antagonistic toward one another. This was explained to be a side-effect of doppelgangers trying to share the same reality. However, this idea has been abandoned in recent years.

In the Dawn of DC era, Kara Danvers and Doctor Paige Stetler have come to peace with their shared background. While the two are not quite as close as sisters (as Supergirl hopes they might be), the two are no longer hostile towards one another. However, Power Girl still feels like something of an outsider despite Supergirl’s best efforts to welcome her into the Superman Family.

Power Girl #6 arrives in comic shops everywhere on February 27. 2024.
