Next month, Marvel Comics celebrates the premiere of X-Men ’97 with a series of variant covers featuring the animated series’ action figures.
Throughout the month of March, no fewer than five X-Men ’97 Action Figure Variant Covers will adorn Marvel‘s various X-Men titles. These covers spotlight Hasbro‘s new Marvel Legends X-Men ’97 6-inch scale action figure line. It all kicks off on Wednesday, March 6 with Weapon X-Men #1 — which features Madelyne Pryor, aka the Goblin Queen, on its action figure variant.
Things continue on March 13 with Wolverine #45, which naturally features an action figure variant starring the claw-wielding X-Man himself. Similarly, Magneto stars on the action figure variant for March 20’s Resurrection of Magneto #3. March 20 also sees the release of X-Men: Forever #1, which depicts a Cyclops figure on its variant cover. Finally, Rogue takes the spotlight on the action figure variant for March 27’s X-Force #50.

X-Men ’97 premieres on Disney+ in March
The reveal of Marvel’s X-Men ’97 Action Figure Variant Covers comes the same day as the first official trailer for X-Men ’97 itself. Produced by Marvel Studios, the anticipated animated series serves as a reboot/continuation of the fan-favorite X-Men: The Animated Series (which itself aired on Fox Kids from 1992 to 1997). It is due to premiere on Disney+ on Wednesday, March 20. The first season will consist of 10 episodes, with a second season already in the works.
The new series is already proving to be something of a synergy machine. In addition to its variant covers, Marvel Comics is also getting in on the action with a four-issue X-Men ’97 limited series, which serves to bridge the gap between the original Animated Series and its upcoming Disney+ revival. Written by Steve Foxe and illustrated by Salva Espín, the comic launches on Wednesday, March 27.
Meanwhile, Marvel’s main line of X-Men comics is currently in the throes of Fall of the House of X and Rise of the Powers of X. These dual limited series serve to bring the X-Men’s Krakoan Age to an end. The status-quo altering story is also playing out in a number of tie-in series, including the aforementioned Resurrection of Magneto and X-Men: Forever. Once things wrap up, the X-Men will be getting a line-wide, post-Krakoa relaunch this summer.
