Void Rivals: The Energon Universe Series Returns With Issue #7 Variant Covers

Skybound Entertainment and Image Comics have revealed the covers that will adorn the upcoming seventh issue of the Energon Universe series Void Rivals.

Void Rivals went on hiatus following the release of issue #6 back in November. The series returns for its second story arc starting with issue #7 — which arrives early next month from writer Robert Kirkman, artist Lorenzo De Felici, colorist Patricio Delpeche, and letterer Rus Wooton. The issue features a main cover by De Felici, as well as variant covers by Nate Bellegarde with MIke Spicer, André Lima Araújo with Chris O’Halloran, Raúl Allén, and Gabriel Hernandez Walta.

An official synopsis for the upcoming issue reads as follows: “Each issue of Void Rivals promises to take readers further into the Energon Universe, with more familiar faces to appear. Following the shocking ending of Void Rivals #6, Darak and Solila traverse the northern wasteland. Danger lurks around every corner. The Void Rivals corner of the Energon Universe continues to grow as PROXIMUS is on the hunt!”

Regarding the bit about “more familiar faces,” Skybound has already offered a glimpse at what the new story arc has in store. The studio recently announced that May’s Void Rivals #9 would feature the Energon Universe debut of the fan-favorite Transformers character Springer.

Void Rivals started the Energon Universe

Image and Skybound’s Energon Universe began with the launch of Kirkman and De Felici’s Void Rivals last June. The sci-fi series’ debut issue featured a surprise appearance by Jetfire, another Transformers mainstay. This set the stage for the debut of Daniel Warren Johnson’s Transformers ongoing series in October.

The Energon Universe has since expanded to include a certain other Hasbro franchise as well. December saw the launch of Duke, the first of four limited series tasked with introducing G.I. Joe characters to the EU. The second series, Cobra Commander, followed suit in January. Image and Skybound will formally kick off year two of the EU with a Free Comic Book Day special releasing this May.

Void Rivals #7 goes on sale Wednesday, March 6 from Image Comics.
