Doctor Doom Goes on His ‘Final Journey’ in New Marvel One-Shot

Marvel Comics has announced Doom #1, a new one-shot that promises to depict the infamous Fantastic Four villain’s “final journey.”

Due for release this May, Doom #1 hails from the creative duo of Jonathan Hickman and Sanford Greene. Hickman and Greene co-write the comic, with Greene also providing both the interior artwork and the main cover art. According to Marvel, Hickman and Greene will “showcase a universe-shattering battle” between Doctor Doom and Galactus. Additionally, the not-so-good doctor will join forces with Valeria Richards, one of the few people he actually respects.

What is Doom #1 about?

An official synopsis for Doom #1 reads as follows: “In the near future … Doom alone must save the marvel universe! Witness Doctor Doom on a journey unlike any he has undertaken before! With Valeria Richards at his side, Doom goes on a quest to harness more power than any human has ever wielded before in order to try to stop Galactus from bringing about the death of the universe!”

Marvel further describes the one-shot as a “timeless testament to Doom’s unmatched hubris, determination, and self-preservation” that will “encapsulate everything” that makes him “one of pop culture’s greatest villains.”

Hickman and Greene discuss the new one-shot

“Growing up reading Marvel Comics, I became fascinated by Doctor Doom and how he potentially is the center of the entire Marvel Universe!” Greene said. “He is one of my bucket list characters and this story is somewhat a love letter to Doom and Marvel.” The co-writer/artist continued, “Jonathan is a longtime friend and he always amazes me with his vast knowledge of all types of things, especially the Marvel universe … I couldn’t think of anyone better to collaborate with.”

“Sanford and I have been waiting to work together for quite a while, so when he told me that he’d come up with an amazing Doom story and he wanted me to help out, I jumped at the chance,” Hickman himself added. “It’s a giant-sized story about a giant-sized character and I can’t tell you how excited I am to get to write Doom again.”

Doom #1 goes on sale Wednesday, May 15 from Marvel Comics.
