Booster Gold Sinks to New Low With Sleazy Startup

The hero Booster Gold has a well-deserved reputation for doing anything to make money off his image. If there’s a product to be promoted or a service to be shilled, he will be there. However, the 2023 Valentine’s Day Special How To Lose a Guy Gardner in 10 Days reveals one sleazy side gig that Booster surprisingly never tried before.

“Golden Pairs” by Danny Lore, Ted Brandt, and Ro Stein details how Booster Gold starts his own dating service. He goes beyond lending his name to the enterprise, however, and offers his personal advice on how to woo your intended. This neatly ignores that he’s never had a substantial romantic relationship. Indeed, most of his efforts at base flirting fall flat.

Despite this, there is some logic behind Booster Gold running a dating service. For all his flaws, Booster does know how to promote himself, so he could theoretically teach that skill to others. He’s also assisted by his robot pal, Skeets, who is smart enough to calculate the ebb and flow of the timestream. Skeets routinely calculates where the time-traveling Booster must go to save the day. Given that, finding people their ideal matches should be a piece of cake.

How Booster Gold’s Dating Service Fails

Unfortunately, Golden Pairs goes under before Booster Gold can finish shooting the first commercial. Skeets informs his boss that their investors pulled out because of a bad review by a prominent influencer who had a miserable date. This pushes Booster to go back in time to try and save the poor critic’s love life.

It turns out that the critic’s date was a supervillain who was using him to set up a jewel heist. The good news is that Booster Gold thwarts the theft. The bad news is he’s left on the hook for the damage to the museum. Worse yet, when he returns to the present, he’s facing accusations his dating service was just a scheme to lure out low-tier supervillains for publicity. Worst of all, Booster Gold is left with a crush on the criminal who made him look like a fool.
