Marvel’s Stormbreakers Celebrate Earth’s Mightiest Heroines With New Variant Covers

This spring, Marvel’s Stormbreakers celebrate some of the House of Ideas’ most iconic female heroes with a new collection of special variant covers.

At this time, Marvel has revealed seven Stormbreakers Variant Covers that will adorn select titles in March. The first five of said titles will hit comic shops on Wednesday, March 6. First up, Shuri takes flight on Martin Coccolo‘s variant cover for Avengers #11. Then, Squirrel Girl packs a punch on Lucas Werneck‘s cover for Captain America #7. Elsewhere, Gamora draws her blades on Elena Casagrande‘s variant for Doctor Strange #13 while Kamala Khan herself stars on Federico Vicentini’s variant for Ms. Marvel: Mutant Menace #1. Similarly, Jen Walters hulks out on Nic Klein’s cover for Sensational She-Hulk #6.

Things continue on Wednesday, March 13 with the release of Carnage #5. Jan Bazaldua provides the issue’s Stormbreakers variant, which features Spider-Gwen. Finally, Riri Williams/Ironheart stars on Chris Allen’s cover for Invincible Iron Man #16 — on sale Wednesday, March 20. At the time of writing, Marvel has not revealed a March 2024 Stormbreakers cover by C.F. Villa.

Marvel’s 2023 Stormbreakers keep the art rolling into 2024

Marvel Comics announced its 2023 lineup of Stormbreakers in September 2022. Starting in January 2023, the eight up-and-coming artists began crafting monthly variant covers for the New York-based publisher. Each batch of Stormbreakers Variant Covers adheres to a particular theme.

In October 2023, for instance, the Stormbreakers celebrated the Halloween season with a collection of variants paying tribute to the legacy of Marvel Zombies. November’s Stormbreakers variants, meanwhile, spotlighted such Marvel icons as Spider-Man, the Fantastic Four, Moon Knight, Blade, and more.

December’s Stormbreakers variants fittingly came with a New Year’s theme. However, it soon became apparent that the Stormbreakers class of 2023 would continue its cover work into 2024. The January 2024 covers actually celebrated 20 years of the Marvel’s Stormbreakers initiative — which originated as the Marvel’s Young Guns program back in 2004.
