What is Lester of the Lesser Gods about?

An official synopsis for the new series reads as follows: “Lester, the LARPing bastard son of Odin, wanders the post-apocalyptic wasteland after thwarting Satan’s attempt to bring about the end of days. But can this hero of the downtrodden survive the battle arena of Will Frye the Technomancer Guy?”

Powell originally created Lester of the Lesser Gods for an unproduced animated short film about 10 years ago. Then, in 2021, the Goon creator teamed with Yates, Mac Cushing, and Kendall for a Lester of the Lesser Gods one-shot published by Albatross. The character later appeared in 2022’s Albatross Exploding Funnybooks anthology.

A synopsis for the 2021 one-shot offers greater insight into Lester’s backstory. “Lester has no friends and no life,” it reads. “That is until Satan unleashes the Apocalypse! No longer is he a 32-year-old, 300 pound LARPer who lives with his mother. A mother who constantly re-minds him of his lowly conception in a biker bar bathroom. But momma didn’t get that gimpy hip from knocking boots with any old biker … t’was a GOD! And Satan shall suckle his knuckle! HUZZAH!”

Lester of the Lesser Gods #1 goes on sale Wednesday, May 22 from Dark Horse Comics.
