Star Wars: Mace Windu #1 Preview Explores the Jedi Master’s Younger Years

Marvel Comics has released an early preview for Star Wars: Mace Windu #1 — the first in a new four-issue limited series.

Star Wars: Mace Windu launches in early February from writer Marc Bernardin, penciler Georges Jeanty, inker Dexter Vines, colorist Andrew Dalhouse, and letterer Joe Caramagna. The series seeks to explore the eponymous Jedi’s younger days, taking place before he was even a Master. StarWars.com exclusively revealed five fully-lettered preview pages from issue #1 — in which Mace escapes from an underwater prison before commandeering a skiff. The issue features a main cover by Mateus Manhanini.

An official synopsis for Mace Windu #1 reads as follows: “ONE OF THE GREATEST JEDI MUST STOP AN INCENDIARY SECRET FROM FALLING INTO THE WRONG HANDS! Even in the years before THE CLONE WARS, MACE WINDU was known for his discipline, determination and combat skills. When a scientist’s discovery threatens the balance of the galaxy, Mace is led down a treacherous path of mystery and action. Introducing AZITA CRUUZ, a pirate with a deadly secret, who the HUTTS and the REPUBLIC will stop at nothing to control!”

Star Wars: Mace Windu isn’t Lucasfilm’s only new Marvel series

Mace Windu is one of two brand-new Marvel limited series Lucasfilm Publishing announced at least year’s New York Comic Con — the other being Star Wars: Jango Fett, which launches this March. At that same event, the company also announced Marvel’s comic book adaptation of the 2018 Star Wars novel Thrawn: Alliances, which launched just this week.

Star Wars: Mace Windu #1 goes on sale Wednesday, February 7 from Marvel Comics.
