Exclusive: AHOY’s Project: Cryptid Gets ‘Ultraterrestrial’ in Issue #5 Preview

AHOY Comics has released an official preview for the upcoming fifth issue of its cryptozoological anthology series Project: Cryptid.

At this time, SuperHeroHype can reveal an exclusive excerpt from Project: Cryptid #5 — which arrives in comic shops one week from today. The excerpt offers a glimpse at “Ultraterrestrials” by Zander Cannon and Gene Ha. That said, Project: Cryptid #5 features not one, but two other stories: “Cryptids Anonymous” by Hanna Bahedry and Lane Lloyd, and “Tall Tale Tour” by Melissa F. Olson and Lloyd. Lloyd and Ha provide the book’s cover art.

An official synopsis reads as follows: “In this cryptid-packed issue, we give you not one, not two, but three thrilling stories! Melissa F. Olson and Lane Lloyd take us to the wilds of Wisconsin, where we meet the fearsome Hodag. Newcomer and rising star Hanna Bahedry teams with Lloyd to give us a glimpse into a secretive Cryptids Anonymous meeting. And finally, Zander Cannon and superstar artist Gene Ha bring us a tale of interterrestrial love!”

Project: Cryptid is AHOY’s first ongoing series

While AHOY is primarily known for its limited series, Project: Cryptid marks the publisher’s very first ongoing series. Initially billed as a six-issue limited series, the title launched in September 2023.

In issue #1, Paul Cornell and P.J. Holden tackled the Mongolian Death Worm, while Mark Russell and Jordi Perez told a tale starring the Yeti. Then, in Project: Cryptid #2, Alisa Kwitney and Alain Mauricet offered their take on the Chupacabra (in the form of the hybrid Chupahuahua), while Alex Segura and Steve Bryant examined the Ivory-Billed Woodpecker.

In issue #3, Bryce Ingman and Peter Krause explored the legend of the Loveland Frogman, while Paul Constant and Krause shone a light on the Gumerboo. Most recently, Liana Kangas, Jazzlyn Stone, and Ted & Ro told a siren story in last month’s Project: Cryptid #4. In that same issue, Henry Barajas and Salomée Luce-Antoinette ventured to the French countryside to tackle the mystery of the Beast of Gevudan.

After issue #5 hits stands later this month, Project: Cryptid #6 will follow suit in February. That issue features a new Chupacabra story by Matt Bors and Daniel Irizarri. Meanwhile, Mattie Lubchansky and Maki Naro lead readers on a search for “the perfect cryptid influencer.”

Project: Cryptid #5 goes on sale Wednesday, January 24 from AHOY Comics.
